  • 11-10-2005
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc.'spilots union offered about $90.7 million in concessions to the bankrupt airline in response to its request for $325 million.þþThe Air Line Pilots Association argued in an objection filed on Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York that the reductions are not essential for the airline's reorganization.þþThe union said the company's proposal would, among other things, cut pilot wages by 19.5 percent, eliminate certain pay guarantees, and reduce vacation accrual and vacation pay,þþ``Delta's own costing analysis shows that concessions that the pilots have already provided, when combined with additional concessions ALPA proposes, will generate enough pilot labor cost savings to allow it to reorganize successfully,'' the union said in the objection.þþDelta, the No. 3 U.S. airline, filed for bankruptcy protection in September. The airline is counting on employees to provide about one-third of $3 billion in cost savings it says it needs to insure its survival amid high fuel costs and competition from low-cost rivals.þþ
