A labor board has sided with a union in a long-running dispute over representation of some workers in city hospitals, a spokeswoman for the union, Local 1180 of the Communications Workers of America, said yesterday. Ending a battle that dated to 1994, the Office of Collective Bargaining ruled last week that 1,300 workers, called coordinating managers, could be represented by the union, said Esther Kaplan, a spokeswoman for the local. The city's Health and Hospitals Corporation had opposed the move. The local now represents 2,362 workers in the public hospitals, city officials said. Union officials said that as a result of the decision, the coordinating managers would receive overtime pay. ÿWe look forward to working with the union to ensure a smooth transition,ÿ said Ana Marengo, a Health and Hospitals Corporation spokeswoman.þþ
