Former President Bill Clinton is in Chicago for the next two days to host a meeting of his Clinton Global Initiative designed to come up with new ideas for generating U.S. job growth.þþMore than 700 business leaders, politicians and nonprofit association executives are expected to attend the sessions at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.þþIn a conference call with reporters Tuesday, Clinton said private efforts are needed to spur hiring because political gridlock and Washington’s focus on the budget deficit mean that “it’s inconceivable to me there’ll be another big government stimulus program any time soon.”þþHe said he was hopeful of finding ways of to strengthen U.S. industries, unlock capital for innovation and entrepreneurship, advance energy efficiency, build clean energy infrastructure, and train Americans for the 21st century workforce.þþTopics covered during the meeting will include education, green buildings, the healthcare workforce, manufacturing, rural development, service corps, small business growth, smart infrastructure and workforce training.þþClinton founded the Clinton Global Initiative in 2005 bring together global leaders “to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” according to a press release.þþChicago was chosen for the jobs conference “ because the city is representative of the challenges confronting communities around the country, is home to some of the most influential companies in the U.S and has been a leader in creating jobs through investments in clean energy, a commitment to early childhood education and a renewed focus on technology.”þþThe Chicago conference is the first held by the organization focusing solely on the United States.þþ
