Striking Cat workers in Joliet Voting on New Contract

Workers at a Caterpillar Joliet plant on strike since May 1 are scheduled to vote on a new contract proposal Wednesday. þþÿThere has not been an agreement reached, but there is a vote Wednesday,ÿ said Timothy O'Brien, president of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 851. He declined to comment further. þþRoughly 800 workers walked out after rejecting a proposed six-year contract that would freeze their wages, double health care premiums and eliminate pensions and seniority rights.þþRusty Dunn, a Caterpillar spokesman, confirmed that the company had modified its proposal. ÿWe are not offering any details/specifics concerning the proposal,ÿ he added.þþCopyright © 2012, Chicago Tribune
