LivingSocial cyber Attack May Affect 50 Million Customers

LivingSocial, a daily deals website part-owned by Amazon.com Inc., said Friday that it was hit by a cyber attack that may have affected more than 50 million customers. þþThe company said the attack on its computer systems resulted in unauthorized access to customer data including names, email addresses, ÿencryptedÿ passwords and some users' dates of birth, according to an internal memo emailed to employees and obtained by AllThingsD.þþThe memo said neither customer credit card information nor merchant banking information was compromised.þþIn the email to customers, LivingSocial is recommending that affected users create new passwords.þþÿWe recently experienced a cyber attack on our computer systems that resulted in unauthorized access to some customer data from our servers,ÿ LivingSocial Chief Executive Tim O'Shaughnessy said in the email. ÿWe are actively working with law enforcement to investigate this issue.ÿþþLivingSocial is the nation's second-largest daily deals company, behind Groupon Inc.
