Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Monday it would remove all merchandise promoting the Confederate flag from its inventory in stores and online, shortly after South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley called for the flag's removal from state Capitol grounds.þþÿWe have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell,ÿ Wal-Mart spokesman Brian Nick said in a statement. ÿStill, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly — this is one of those instances.ÿþþÿWe never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer,ÿ he said.þþThe call to remove the Confederate flag from South Carolina Capitol grounds comes after nine people were killed last week in a historic black church in Charleston by a white suspect who embraced the flag as a symbol of his racist ideology.þþ“The hate-filled murderer has a sick and twisted view of the flag,” Haley said at a news conference Monday, adding, “We have changed through the times and we will continue to do so, but that doesn’t mean we forget our history.”
