TOLEDO, OHIO - Dozens of employees at the new Dana Toledo Driveline facility went on strike around 4:00 AM Wednesday.þþJust before 12:30pm, the company and the workers came to an agreement, ending the strike.þþWorkers said they want union representation, specifically for better pay and better hours.þþHead of UAW region 2B Rich Rankin says the workers reached a deal. He tells 13abc the company will sit down with the union as soon as possible to negotiate a contract.þþEarlier Wednesday morning, Rankin said employees were not represented by a union. He explained they have a neutrality agreement with Dana Inc. that a union would be recognized if a majority of the workers wanted representation.þþRankin says around 70 percent of employees asked for representation.þþIn a statement, a Dana spokesperson wrote:þþÿEarlier today, the United Auto Workers and United Steelworkers agreed that the UAW will have the right to organize Dana's Toledo facility. According to Dana's neutrality agreement with the UAW and USW, a neutral third party must verify that a majority of our Toledo hourly employees wish to be represented by the UAW.þþAs we previously stated, competing unions were soliciting our employees to become members. Dana has a neutrality agreement with both the UAW and the USW that requires the two unions to agree which union will represent the Toledo plant and organize our workers.þþDana respects the right of our people to organize. While we are disappointed that today's completely unnecessary labor action took place, we are pleased that the two unions have come to an agreement and that the matter was resolved quickly to protect the best interests of our people, our customers, and our shareholders.ÿ
