Teachers in Pueblo City Schools District 60 made it official Sunday, voting overwhelmingly to end their five-day strike after winning a long-sought 2 percent pay hike.þþJacqueline Riggs, a strike captain with the Pueblo Education Association, said the agreement with the school district “was a fair deal.” She said all indications are that teachers will return to the classroom on Monday to finish out the school year.þþ“The pressure really made a difference,” Riggs said Sunday, shortly after the 5 p.m. close of voting.þþThe final tally was 495-62 in favor of ratification.þþThe agreement is good through the 2018-19 school year and covers the Pueblo Education Association — which represents the teachers — and the Pueblo Paraprofessional Education Association and the district. The teachers will get a 2 percent cost-of-living raise for the 2017-18 school year, retroactive from January.þþIn September, association teachers will get a step on the salary scale, a 2.5 percent cost-of-living increase and an extra $50 monthly in the district’s insurance premium contribution.þþThe week-long strike was the first action of its kind by teachers in nearly 25 years in Colorado.
