TOLEDO, Ohio - A potential strike is looming at Mercy Health St. Vincent's Medical Center on Monday, with no resolution between the nurse's union and Mercy Health. The two are at odds over a contract dispute involving 1,200 nurses and about 1,000 other employees.þþ13abc has been following this story as it develops, speaking with representatives from Mercy Health and the nurses union.þþAccording to the union, they have concerns over the amount of overtime and on call hours nurses are required to work, in addition to issues with a proposed health care plan.þþÿWe provide awesome care but you can only stretch that rubber band so far before it breaks,ÿ said Susan Pratt, RN, president and bargaining chair for UAW Local 2213.þþMercy leaders recognize the concerns of the nurses but say the offer on the table is both fair and competitive.þþÿThe vast majority of the proposal in that package was agreed to by the union,ÿ said Matt Sapara, VP of operations and regional development at Mercy Health.þþIn a statement from the UAW, the union is accusing the hospital and Mr. Sapara of making inaccurate statements to 13abc regarding requirements for on-call staffing, stating: ÿIt is not voluntary and the hospital’s ability to force unlimited on-call hours on some employees is among the bigger issues in the ongoing labor dispute.ÿþþ
