WARRICK CO., Ind. (WFIE) - United Steel Workers Local 104 President Chris Horn says a strike authorization vote is underway Wednesday.þAs we reported earlier this month, the contract with Alcoa had been set to expire two weeks ago. It was extended for negotiations to continue.þ“The existing contract was extended to give more time for both the union and Alcoa to negotiate a new labor agreement. Our employees continue to report to work as normal, and we are ready to resume contract talks soon for a fair and competitive agreement that positions Alcoa and our employees for success,ÿ Alcoa said Wednesday in a statement.þIf the strike vote is passed, it would not mean union members would immediately stop working. It means they would be willing to strike if an agreement cannot be reached.
