GE Workers Say Strike Coming After They Rejected Contract

General Electric Co. was put on notice July 30 that more than 1,200 of its workers will go on strike in less than two weeks if the company doesn’t reach a favorable agreement with the International Association of Machinists.þþThe Machinists Union’s members earlier “overwhelmingly” voted down a contract offer from the company that the union said carried too many unnecessary concessions. The IAM represents 1,250 GE employees in Ohio and Wisconsin who work in the company’s aviation and medical divisions.þþIf no agreement is reached with GE, the union will go on strike at 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 12.
