LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Teachers at Clark County schools could strike next month if their union doesn't reach an agreement with the school district by the end of the week.þþJohn Vellardita, the Clark County Education Association's executive director, confirmed to News 3 the union would strike on Sept. 10 ÿif there is no resolution by Friday, August 23.ÿþþA formal announcement was planned for later Tuesday to announce the CCEA's decision.þþThe CCEA argued the Clark County School District has not addressed a .625 percent reduction in teachers' salaries due to the PERs cost, and that the district has not paid for the column movement of teachers along with health insurance money. The latter is guaranteed to teachers since it is promised by the Nevada State Legislature.þþVellardita said last week the most recent offer from the CCSD was lacking.þþÿWe're nowhere near close to an agreement,ÿ he said. ÿI think the district is essentially creating the conditions for a strike.ÿþþCCSD said in a statement Friday its offer is “the most significant increase in compensation and benefits proposed for our employees by the district in over a decade.”þþThe CCEA released a video Monday saying the school district did not follow through on a promised $5,000 raise for teachers who spent three years developing professional skills.
