  • 02-27-2020
The union representing 4,000 janitors who work in some of the Twin Cities' most prominent commercial buildings will begin a 24-hour strike Thursday evening, beginning with a rally through downtown Minneapolis.þþThe Pioneer Press has an update on the strike, which will start at 5 p.m. Members of the Service Employees International Union Local 26 will then hold a protest at Eighth and Nicollet at 6 p.m. before marching through downtown. þþSEIU members are employed by more than a dozen subcontractors, such as ABM and Marsden, and work in buildings such as the IDS Center, Capella Tower and the Ameriprise building in Minneapolis, Ecolab's headquarters in St. Paul and UnitedHealth Group Inc.'s campus in the suburbs.þþThe union voted earlier this month to authorize a strike after negotiations with several employers fell apart over issues including higher wages, sick time and a “green cleaning” training program designed to reduce the use of chemicals.þþ
