MARLBOROUGH, Mass. —þSchool bus drivers in Marlborough, Massachusetts, hit the picket line Monday after contract negotiations hit a stalemate.þþTeamsters Local 170 announced late Sunday night that drivers who work Marlborough bus routes would strike. It means that about 55 school bus drivers in Marlborough are off the road, and walking the picket line.þþNegotiations for new contracts have been going on since Sunday morning between the union and transportation vendor NRT.þþTeamsters managers said the sticking point is the economic package, and talks broke down, so the union declared a strike in Marlborough.þþA strike was avoided when a deal was reached in nearby Framingham on Sunday night.þþ“We are physically on strike in Marlborough. We are not pulling Westborough at this time. Marlborough is officially on strike. We will be on strike until we resolve the contract. We are hoping NRT brings an offer back to the table that will be responsible and good for the drivers, and we will go from there,” said Jim Marks, business manager for Teamsters Local 170.þþIn Westborough, there is no strike, but also no deal on a new collective bargaining agreement.
