SPOKANE, Wash. — New fencing has been put up around several buildings at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.þþA union employee at Sacred Heart told us that the fencing was put up Saturday, which has raised concerns regarding the sidewalks' compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. þþIn a statement from Providence Sacred Heart, ÿFencing on the Sacred Heart Medical Center campus, which is permitted through the city of Spokane, is ADA compliant.ÿþþ4 News Now asked for further information on why the fences are up, but have not received clarification.þþThis comes ahead of a union labor strike at Sacred Heart involving hundreds of workers, set to begin on Monday.þþÿWe feel we have no choice but to take these actions to get Providence to hear us out. Every single caregiver would rather be inside that hospital taking care of their patients rather than out on the curb holding a signÿ, said Derek Roybal, a bargaining team member.þþUnion members also said, Providence walked away from negotiations when notified of the strike.þþÿIt was at that moment that my priorities shifted to making sure we stayed open and able to provide safe quality care to our community,ÿ said Susan Stacey, Providence CEO.
