Iowa Union Declares Victory Following Ottumwa Strike

  • 04-23-2025

OTTUMWA, Iowa (KCRG) - After a 12-day strike, an Iowa union is declaring victory, saying it achieved the “best-ever” collective bargaining agreement for members at the Keurig Dr. Pepper plant in Ottumwa.

Members of Teamsters Local 238 went on strike earlier this month to demand better work conditions.

Union Workers in Ottumwa went on strike after rejecting the company’s contract offer, saying union workers have been without a contract since April 1, when the last one expired.

The union says the new agreement includes an improved and cheaper health insurance plan, guaranteed paid time off, and an eight percent pay increase in the first year of contracts.

Local 238 released a statement regarding the agreement:

“From the very beginning, this fight was about securing justice and holding this employer accountable, and that’s exactly what we did.”
