Unionized toll collectors on the New Jersey Turnpike agreed to a 24-hour extension of their contract to 12:01 a.m. tomorrow after 8 hours of fruitless talks yesterday.þþThe leader of the turnpike workers, Fran Ehret, president of Local 194 of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, said the union would continue talks today and would not order a strike. The union, which represents about 1300 workers, is seeking annual wage increases of 4 percent in a four-year contract. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority has offered no wage increase in the first year of a four-year contract and an 11 percent increase over the last three years.þþ
