Speaker after speaker raged against the anti-labour and anti-union policies of Wal-Mart.þþJesse Jackson in his closing address said we must prevent the Walmartisation of the USA and world economy.þþSecretary Treasurer Joe Hansen declared North America can't live on a Wal-Mart paycheque. ÿIt's time to replace that happy face with a UFCW union card in every Wal-Mart in the USA and Canada now.ÿþþUFCW research projects that by 2008 Wal-Mart will own more than 50% of the retail food market.þþA people's campaign Justice@Wal-Mart has been launched to bring justice and fair working conditions to Wal-Mart.þþThe Convention unanimously adopted a statement to step up organising efforts. In his address to the Convention, UNI General Secretary, Philip J. Jennings, promised that the Wal-Mart campaign had gone global.þþIn Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Germany and Great Britain Wal-Mart workers had joined unions, the company talked to the unions. ÿIf this happens around the world, then it should be happening in the USA and Canada,ÿ Jennings stated to loud applause.þ
