AT&T: Long-Distance Giant Puts Non-Union Raises on Hold

AT&T Corp. will freeze salaries for 43,000 non-union workers until April 2005 as part of its effort to trim costs.þþThe employees had been scheduled to receive merit raises in April. Bonuses will be paid as scheduled in March.þþThe freeze was announced in an e-mail to employees by AT&T Chairman and Chief Executive Dave Dorman.þþÿBy April 2005, business conditions permitting, we expect to resume merit increases on an annual basis, once again tying them to the yearly performance review cycle,ÿ Dorman said.þþSpokeswoman Tracey Belko could not say how much the company stands to save.þþNew York-based AT&T, the nation's largest long-distance carrier, has 64,000 employees.þþThis year, AT&T delayed its non-union raise scheduled for April until September.þþ
