  • 08-17-2004
MT. CLEMENS, MICHIGAN -- Registered nurses on strike against Mt. Clemens General Hospital voted Sunday to reject a hospital management contract proposal, following the advice of union bargainers.þþThe nurses rejected the proposal by 3-1, said Sandra Sulfow, spokeswoman for Local 40 of the Office and Professional Employees International Union. She would not disclose the exact vote but said about 400 people voted.þþAbout 500 nurses went on strike Monday after talks deadlocked. The nurses had been without a contract since Feb. 28. The hospital has replaced the striking nurses with temporary workers from U.S. Nursing Corp.þþThe union said the management offer called for a three-year contract that would raise wages 3 percent in each year of the contract. Hospital management refused to agree to nurses' demand for guaranteed staffing levels and rejected a union offer of binding arbitration.þ
