Talking Stops After Labor Meeting

MONTREAL (AP) -- The NHL and its players' association met for nine hours Wednesday, but refused comment on whether progress was made toward a new collective bargaining agreement.þþThe sides, who met for 16 hours over two days, scheduled another meeting Thursday in Montreal.þþThe league and union decided for the second straight day to reserve comment until the round of meetings is over.þþThe NHLPA continued its queries regarding the operations and business practices of the league's 30 teams.þþBill Daly, the NHL's executive vice president and chief legal officer, last week charged the union with wasting time with its queries, saying the NHLPA wasn't really interested in negotiating at this point.þþThe NHLPA denied those claims, insisting it is engaged in an important dialogue that will possibly lead to a proposal from its side.þþThe current collective bargaining agreement expires Sept. 15.þ
