For the first time in more than a month, officials from the National Hockey League and the players union will meet tomorrow at an undisclosed site to resume negotiations to end the lockout. þþIt will be the first meeting since Dec. 14, and it will not include Gary Bettman, the N.H.L. commissioner, or Bob Goodenow, the executive director of the players union.þþBill Daly, the second-in-command for the N.H.L., is expected to meet with Ted Saskin, his counterpart for the union.þþAlso invited are Trevor Linden of the Vancouver Canucks, the president of the union, and his opposite, Harley Hotchkiss, the chairman of the N.H.L.'s board of governors.þþDaly, in an e-mail message from New York, said, ÿWe accepted their offer to meet and are hopeful that progress can be made toward a resolution.ÿþþSaskin, in a statement from Toronto, said, ÿWe think it is appropriate and, hopefully, useful to engage in these discussions at this time.ÿþþHe said the players had no new proposal and would continue to reject a salary cap in negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement.
