TORONTO (AP) -- A four-hour wildcat strike by Air Canada ground crew workers at Pearson International Airport ended Wednesday night, but not before disrupting the travel plans of thousands of people with numerous flights delayed or cancelled.þþA union spokesman said a resolution had been reached over the contentious issue surrounding punching out at the end of shifts and that workers had agreed to return to work late Wednesday.þþBoyd Richardson, a spokesman for members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, said no disciplinary action would be taken against the strikers.þþThe walkout forced the airline to cancel at least 19 flights and delayed some 60 others. Flights in other Canadian cities were also affected.þþMany travellers at the Toronto airport were left wondering when they would be able to board their flights, while passengers on flights were left sitting on their planes and unable to get off.þþThe effects of strike rippled across the country with some flights in or out of Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Montreal and Halifax either delayed or canceled.þþThe labor disruption was the first major dispute between Air Canada and its workers since the carrier emerged from bankruptcy protection Oct. 1 with fewer planes, less debt, a smaller workforce, an infusion of new capital and a focus on no-frills travel domestically.þþþþ
